Johnson and Webb Earn SIAC Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats posted three weekend victories and now receive double recognition from the league for it. Fort Valley State's Caprice Johnson and Raven Webb earned the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors announced on Monday.
 
The Wildcat duo combined for all three wins in the circle with a 0.50 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 14 innings pitching and a .583 average (7 of 12) with seven runs and five RBI at the plate as FVSU swept Allen University by scores of 13-0, 9-1 and 10-2 over the weekend.
 
Johnson of Woodstock, Ga., logged eight combined innings of work against the Yellow Jackets where she did not allow an earned run and only seven hits with nine strikeouts and no free passes. On Saturday, she went the entire five frames and allowed five hits and seven strikeouts. For her Senior Day outing on Sunday, Caprice went the first three innings with only allowing a single to center by the second batter faced and fanned two.
 
Webb led the Wildcats at the plate where she went 7 for 11 (.636) with six runs, three doubles and five RBI along with a pitching win. The freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., went 3 for 3 with a double and a RBI in Game 2 of the series where she also carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before she finished with a one-hitter with a season-best 12 strikeouts in the win. She completed the weekend with a 3 for 4 final game with a pair of doubles, two runs, including the game-ending one, and three RBI.
 
For the season, Johnson stands at 7-8 overall with a 3.48 ERA over 74.1 innings of work. She has two shutouts and seven complete games to go with a 34 strikeout to 13 walk ratio.
 
Webb leads FVSU with a .417 batting average of 40 hits in 96 at bats. Raven has scored 11 runs, lined 13 doubles, one home run and 30 RBI while she maintains a .583 slugging percentage.
 
The two Wildcats and their teammates have a week off before they host Paine College in a non-conference twinbill next Monday afternoon, April 10, in a 1 p.m. first pitch.
