Marauders Clip Wildcats in Tight Five Sets

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats had it on their finger tips and the match slipped away. Fort Valley State rallied in the second set to take a two-set lead, but Central State gained the momentum and clipped the home team in the fifth set, 15-13, for the 3-2 men's volleyball victory.
 
The Marauders (13-14/5-1 SIAC) took an 8-5 advantage into the fifth-set turn. Central State continued to hold leads of 10-7 and 12-10, before back-to-back FVSU (7-17/4-4 SIAC) points tied it at 12. Down 14-12, Taviian Martin kept the Wildcats hope alive before Cameron Lee sent an attack down the right sideline for a winner to end the match, 15-13.
 
Isaiah Fedd paced the home attack with 16 kills to go with 10 digs, three blocks, two aces and an assist. Jaxon Hicks added 11 kills, 11 digs, three aces and two blocks. Martin chipped in seven winners, eight digs and five blocks, while Rashaun Wright had five kills without an error in nine attacks (.556) and four blocks.
 
Justin Yates handed out 37 assists for FVSU, while he had 12 digs, three blocks and three kills. Jamil Scott and Diego Cardona both contributed 11 digs apiece on defense.
 
Lee guided the Marauders with 16 kills.
 
FVSU (7-17/4-4 SIAC) came out strong and led by as many as seven points, 17-10, in the opener before a Yates ace finished the set, 25-20. Behind 23-20 in set number two, FVSU received kills by Oshane Farquharson and Martin and tied it at 23. Tied at 24, the home team completed the comeback when Central State hit the ball out the final two points for the 26-24 finish.
 
Tied at 22 in set three, the Marauders won their first set with the final three points, 25-22. Behind 23-20 late, FVSU put up the next three tallies to tie the fourth set, but Central State used a home service error and a final kill to win, 25-23, and force the fifth set.
 
FVSU is now off for the next week before it hosts Edward Waters in a 6 p.m. first serve on Thursday night, April 13.
