The Wildcats make their third appearance in a row. FVSU made its first run in eight years back on 2019 and went 0-2. After no tournaments in both 2020 and 2021, the Wildcats returned last spring where they went 1-2, before the program's third appearance in a row starting tomorrow.

FVSU's 18 victories for the 2023 campaign tied the most wins since the program's 18-24 final record in 2019. The 18 Wildcat win total also is already four more victories for second-year Head Coach Rufus Green.

A year ago, Green helped his Wildcats win the club's first SIAC Tournament victory since the 2011 team, which finished 24-19, ran through the tournament field to the title with four-straight wins.

In the 2022 bracket, FVSU had a tough start with an 8-0 loss to Tuskegee. The Wildcats followed it with a 9-8 win over the Thorobreds of Kentucky State in the Loser's bracket. On the second day, FVSU's run came to an end to eventual semifinal team Albany State, 5-1.

FVSU sees its road begin with the same foe in Tuskegee half past high noon Tuesday. The Lady Golden Tigers claimed the teams first showdown at the SIAC Crossover event in Jasper, Ala., back on March 13 by a 10-1 final in six innings. Makayla Cruz led off with a walk, moved to second on Mariah Williams single, which turned out to be the Wildcats lone hit of the contest, and came around to score on a Laila Leverett sac fly to left field. Tuskegee answered with three in the bottom of the first and two more in the second to take control.

Freshman and top hitter Raven Webb and junior short stop Mariah Williams paces the FVSU offensive attack. Webb hit .453 with 34 hits in 75 at bats over 22 SIAC contests where she had 10 runs, 28 RBI, 12 doubles and two home runs. For the year, the third baseman/pitcher recorded a .426 average with 55 hits in 129 at bats, 16 doubles, 43 RBI and only struck out three times.

Williams was not far behind her at the plate in league action with a .391 average (25 of 64) with 24 runs, 11 RBI, three home runs and 16 stolen bases. The short stop lined 41 hits in 108 at bats for the entire season at a .380 clip, 39 runs, four homers and 22 stolen bases.
