Wildcats’ Youngblood Guides U.S. Powerlifting for Special Olympics World Games

7/5/2023 2:11:00 PM

BERLIN, Germany – The Wildcat athletic leaders have many talents. Fort Valley State softball associate head coach Todd Youngblood took his non-softball talents and helped guide the United States powerlifting team at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany.

Taking place from Jun 17-25, coach Youngblood coached the U.S. powerlifters to an impressive six-day performance. Along with two others coaches, the FVSU coach guided six males and two female lifters for a haul of 30 out of a possible 35 medals.

The eight total competitors came from across the country – Hawaii, Alaska, Oklahoma, Iowa, Washington, New Jersey, Missouri, Arkansas and New Hampshire – and competed in the events of squat, bench, and deadlift. The powerlifting team took part in their various weight classes over the six days of competition.

Each competition day was broadcast live on ESPN Plus and can still be watched on Facebook and ESPN Plus.

Youngblood showed another example of how the Wildcat athletic staff and FVSU gives back to the country and makes a mark on the lives they come into contact.
