Williams Wins Inaugural Wildcat XC Opener

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats started a new tradition with the help of the agricultural department. Montana Williams won the women's race to highlight the Inaugural Wildcat Cross Country Opener held at Camp John Hope fields.

Leading the entire 5K race, Williams went across the finish line 23.9 seconds (25:20.2) faster than the next competitor to win the first Wildcat race. Teammate Katelynn Hodges registered a solid first FVSU effort in fifth place in 28:34.9. Rounding out the FVSU women's runners was Haneefat Adanijo in ninth (31:54.9).

On the FVSU men's side, Elijah Taylor led the home contingent with a solid ninth place of the 23 men's field. He crossed the 8K race in 34:50.6, less than a second behind the eighth-place finisher. Larry Turner and Nashom Williams were back-to-back in 18^th (44:30.5) and 19^th (45:27.4). Emarion Johnson crossed the finish in 47:25.1 (22^nd).

South Georgia College's Dylan Dixon blistered past the rest of the men's field and won the race in 2:52.9 faster than the second-place finisher with a time of 29:37.1

Both FVSU teams return to action next Saturday, Sept. 23, at the West Georgia Invite.
