FVSU Prevails Over Wesleyan College Volleyball

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – A good place to put another 'W' in the left record column is at home. Fort Valley State accomplished the task as it prevailed, 3-1, over Wesleyan College in women's volleyball Thursday night.

Leading 2-1 (25-21, 25-16, 19-25) going into Set 4, the Wildcats used a 16-5 start and held off the scrappy Wolves by a 25-19 margin to end the match.

With the victory, FVSU improved to 7-8 on the season, its fastest reaching seven wins in over a decade, and matched last year's win total.

Leading the attack, both Laila Hilton and Hallea Gibbs downed 16 kills and recorded a block apiece. Hilton hit .333 and Gibbs had six digs. Morgan Hebert added 11 kills, two digs and two assists of her own. Laiani McCullough handed out 44 assists and dug 16 attacks for a double-double to go with four kills, four blocks and an ace.

Brooke Matthews chipped in eight kills, hit .353 and added two blocks. Nakaia Berekley dug 10 attacks and Syraih Wint had seven.

Brittany Davis led Wesleyan with eight kills and nine digs.

FVSU stays at home where it will play both Central State (9 a.m.) and Kentucky State (3 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 30.
