Wildcats Extend Winning Ways, Take Down Golden Tigers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Wildcats are successfully coming together. Fort Valley State extended its winning ways as it took down Tuskegee University, 3-0, for the third weekend women's volleyball shut out.

Behind three Benaye Kyle kills, FVSU ran off seven-straight points for a 16-10 lead and went on for an opening 25-22 set win. Leading by a single point late in second number two, the Wildcats put together a string of eight points in a row for a 25-16 final. After going out to an early 10-3 advantage, FVSU saw Antonique Coleman winner end the second set in a row for a 25-20 final score.

With the win, FVSU extended its win streak to six matches and now 9-2 overall and 7-2 in the SIAC East. The Wildcats claimed their third-straight series win over Tuskegee (5-9/4-7 SIAC West).

In the team hitting, FVSU recorded a solid .284 attack percentage with 45 kills in 102 swings.

Dakotah Holmes guided the front line effort with 13 kills in 25 hits at a .320 rate to go with seven digs and a block. Kyle hit .391 herself with 11 kills, two errors and 23 attacks, while she added four digs and a block too. Coleman recorded seven winners, hit .500, blocked a pair of attacks and dug five balls. Caytlyn Sanford added six kills, while Laila Hilton and Nia Mack chipped in four and three kills.

Sarah Rosario partoled the back row with a match-high 20 digs to go with four assists and three aces. Laiani McCullough handed out 25 assists and had seven digs. Jahyra Thomas rounded out the effort with seven assists and three digs.

FVSU returns home for a rivalry match with Albany State on Tuesday evening, Oct. 15. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
