MACON, Ga. – The Wildcats took on the league's best on Wednesday morning. Katelynn Hodges and Elijah Taylor led the Fort Valley State cross country teams at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.
Lead the Wildcat women by two minutes, Hodges ran her way to a solid 27th place finish in the women's 88-runner field, while Taylor paced the men in 31st place as the top FVSU runner by almost four minutes.
For the women, FVSU ran its way to eighth place of the 13-team field with a score of 242. Albany State won the title with a finish of 40 over Tuskegee (52) and Central State (98).
On the men's side, FVSU captured 13th place of 14 teams with a score of 337. Morehouse College ran away with the title at 38 over Central State and Tuskegee with 88 and 90.
Individually, Anaya Martin of Tuskegee won the women's title over Nathalia Rowe from ASU, 19:12.98 to 19:30.18. Morehouse's Brian Kemel won the men's race by 2:10 over Benedict's Kelvin Kiprop.
Hodges recorded a FVSU team-best 22:57.81 for her 27th place finish. Blanche McCluskey came after Hodges in a time of 24:56.96 (44th) before Ariyah Graham's 52nd place (25:40.32). Azaniah White and Jenna Jones completed the women only four seconds apart in 60th (26:19.55) and 62nd (26:23.99).
Taylor ran his 8K distance in 30:36.14 for the 31st placing. Larry Turner had the next best performance in 34:14.24 (60th). Julian Stafford led the three other Wildcats in 79th (38:32.16), before Andre Milner and Trenis Edmond rounded out the team's runners in 81st (39:15.35) and 88th (45:27.37).
