BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wildcats are holding their own against the league's other Division. Fort Valley State wasted no time in pouncing on Tuskegee and rode it to a 5-1 victory after Lane College took away the morning meeting, 8-2, of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover Softball Day 2 contests.
In the bottom-of-the first inning, FVSU received a one-run Riley Youngblood double and a two-run Alexia Scott double and opened a 3-0 lead on Tuskegee. The Wildcats added single scores in the next two frames on Ashtyn Perkins run-scoring single and a Jenner Ramirez sac fly to Scott, who doubled for the second time. Taylor Watson held the Golden Tigers in check as she gave up a lone earned run on seven hits and struck out three over seven innings.
After FVSU tied it at 2-2 on a Youngblood two-run Dragon miscue, Lane College retook the lead with two scored in the fifth and added another four in the sixth for the 8-2 win.
Mariah Williams recorded a 4 for 7 with a 3 for 3 second game to go with two runs, a double and two stolen bases. Parkins finished 3 for 6 with a RBI. Scott doubled two times, scored a run and drove in a pair, while Youngblood singled and doubled with a run and three RBI. Leah Leonard and Avery Thomas had the other two hits.
FVSU will complete the SIAC Crossover event on Thursday (March 14) with games against Kentucky State (1:15 p.m.) and LeMoyne-Owen (5:45 p.m.).
