JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Wildcats continued the wins in league play Friday night. Fort Valley State gave up its first set in SIAC play, but took care of host Edward Waters, 3-1, in men's volleyball.
Leading 15-14 in the first set, FVSU (14-8/9-0 SIAC) ran off the next four points capped by a Chey Cooper kill before it went on for the 25-20 final. Edward Waters (12-15/8-2 SIAC) turned a 17-13 lead into a 23-14 advantage of the eventual 25-17 second set to tie the night at 1-1.
The Wildcat roared back and led 22-17 before Jaxon Hicks pounded kills around a Isaiah Fedd service ace to take back the match lead, 25-17. Leading 9-7 early in the fourth set, the visitors scored four the next five tallies and finished off the Tigers by a 25-18 score.
As a team, FVSU hit a solid .358 over 109 attacks. Cooper led the offense with 13 kills and two errors in 23 swings for a .478 percentage to go with an ace, a block and six digs. Hicks added 11 kills with only a single error in 25 attacks and had nine digs. Saferino Dour added five kills on seven swing for a .714 percentage.
Both Fedd and Raheem Thomas chipped in eight kills apiece. Jaequon Henderson and Jose Gallado handed out 29 and 15 assists, while Diego Cardona dug 13 digs.
FVSU closes its regular season on Sunday afternoon, April 14, in a 3 p.m. match at Benedict College.
