ATLANTA, Ga. – After a solid first day, the Wildcat claimed a Friday title. Fort Valley State's Nadejah Batts threw her way to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Shot Put top spot of the Championship Second Day.
By a distance of 0.41 meters, Batts recorded the best shot put throw of 12.40 meters for the Conference title.
Batts throwing teammate, Miniya Miller posted a pair of placings with a fifth in the shot put herself in 11.56 meters and the same spot of fifth in the discus at 38.22 meters.
Aquila Kerr added two more event placings to her resume with a sixth in the triple jump (11.18 meters) and reached the eighth-best height of 1.85 meters in the pole vault.
As a team, the Wildcats will head to the final day in fourth place with 44.50 points. Albany State, Benedict College and Clark Atlanta hold the top three positions with 69, 57 and 52.50 points.
It was the D'liyah Austell show for FVSU in the preliminary events. Austell ran her way to the best times in both the 200 meters (24.46) and 400 meters (56.24), while she was fourth in the 100 meters (12.35) to move onto Saturday's finals in each event.
FVSU looks to add to its point total and move up the standings for Day 3 of the SIAC Championships on Saturday, April 27.
