FVSU Gets Best of Central State in Three

WILBERFORCE, Ohio The Wildcats claimed their second victory in less than 24 hours on Saturday afternoon. Fort Valley State started strong and was able to get the best of Central State in straight sets, 3-0, for SIAC men's volleyball.

Leading 12-7 in the middle of the first set, FVSU (13-8/8-0 SIAC) ran off eight of the next nine points compliments of a trio of Jaxon Hicks kills to make it 20-8. Raheem Thomas smashed the final point at 25-14 for the first game. Ahead 21-20 in set number two, Isaiah Fedd and Hicks downed a winner apiece as part of the next three points as the visitors scored five of the final six tallies (25-21). Central State led by as many as five points, 13-8, in the third set before a Devin Harris service ace cut the margin down to a point at 20-19. The Wildcats still trailed 24-22, but they ran off the final four points, including a Thomas and Chey Cooper combo block for the 26-24 win to end the match.

Fedd downed 12 kills with four errors in 20 swings for a .400 hit percentage to lead the FVSU attack. He also served up four aces, three digs, two assists and a block. Hicks chipped in nine kills of his own to go with two blocks and an assist. Cooper added six kills, three blocks and four digs.

Thomas hit .571 with four kills in seven attacks along with his three blocks. Rashaun Wright had a kill and two blocks. Jose Gallardo handed out 25 assists with two digs, a kill and a block, while Diego Cardona dug seven back row attacks. Harris finished with three service aces.

Tyrone Sands paced Central State with eight kills.

FVSU has almost a full week off before it travels to Jacksonville, Fla., and face the defending SIAC champs Edward Waters on Friday evening, April 12, in a 6 p.m. first serve.
