Wildcats Swat Yellow Jackets, 3-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (14-3, 9-1 SIAC) dominated Allen University (9-9, 6-6 SIAC) in straight sets on Friday evening.

The Wildcats opened the match in commanding fashion, taking the first set 25-9. After jumping ahead 2-1, FVSU went on a four-point run behind the serve of Benaye Kyle. From there, the Wildcats closed the set on a dominant 14-1 stretch, capped by a Dakotah Holmes kill to seal the 25-9 win.

FVSU continued to roll in the second set, using another early four-point run with Kyle at the service line to grab a 5-1 lead. Reagan Mann then helped extend the advantage with another four-point surge for a 9-2 cushion. The Yellow Jackets responded with a scoring push of their own, but the Wildcats shut the door by outscoring Allen 11-3 down the stretch. Holmes again sealed the set with a kill for the 25-14 win.

Much like the second, FVSU controlled the third set from start to finish, earning another 25-14 victory. Naoma Yancey sparked an early eight-point run from the service line to put the Wildcats ahead 8-1. A few short scoring bursts, including back-to-back three-point runs, gave FVSU a 24-11 edge before Holmes closed out the match with her final kill.

Holmes powered the offense with a stellar 17-kill performance while hitting an impressive .500, leading both teams in kills and hitting percentage. Kyle followed with nine kills and a .389 mark, while Imani Stokes added five kills at a .364 clip. Morgan Hebert set the tone with 34 assists to go along with three solo blocks, accounting for half of FVSU's team total.

Defensively, Yancey anchored the back row with 13 digs, followed by Sarah Rosario with nine and Kyle with seven.

The Wildcats return home to HPE on Sunday, October 19, to host Benedict College. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
