FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (15-3, 10-1 SIAC) powered past Benedict College (14-5, 8-4 SIAC) in three sets on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats claimed the opening set, 25-22. The two teams traded points early, with Benedict maintaining a slight edge until FVSU went on a four-point run with
Morgan Hebert serving to take a 17-16 lead. With the score tied at 19,
Sarah Rosario sparked another Wildcat surge from the service line, helping FVSU pull ahead 23-19.
Benaye Kyle sealed the set with a kill.
FVSU took the second set, 27-25, after a back-and-forth battle. The Wildcats jumped out to a 5-1 lead before Benedict rallied to regain control. Hebert again ignited a four-point run to even the score at 20. The teams traded points late, but
Imani Stokes closed the set with a kill to put FVSU up 2-0.
The Wildcats completed the sweep with a dominant 25-13 win in the third set. With the score tied at 4, FVSU went on a six-point run behind Hebert's serving to take a 9-4 advantage. The Wildcats continued to roll, stretching the lead to 24-11 behind an eight-point run with
Reagan Mann at the line before Kyle finished the match with her 14th kill.
Kyle led the offense with 14 kills while hitting .267.
Dakotah Holmes followed with 10 kills, and Stokes added five. Hebert directed the offense with 30 assists and led the team with three of FVSU's nine service aces.
Brooke Matthews anchored the defense at the net with two solo blocks and two block assists, accounting for four of the team's six total blocks. Hebert notched a double-double with 11 digs, while Rosario added nine and Kyle contributed eight.
The Wildcats return home to face Edward Waters University on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.
