FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (16-3, 11-1 SIAC) dominated Edward Waters University (5-12, 5-7 SIAC) in a clean sweep Tuesday evening.
The Wildcats opened strong, taking the first set 25-13. FVSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead with
Naoma Yancey at the service line and never looked back. A four-point run extended the advantage to 15-6 before
Morgan Hebert served out a five-point stretch capped by a
Caytlyn Sanford kill to close the set.
FVSU claimed the second set 25-16 after a competitive start. Edward Waters took an early lead, but the Wildcats answered with three straight three-point runs to go up 14-12. Holding a 20-15 advantage, FVSU closed strong behind a final surge capped by an
Imani Stokes kill.
The Wildcats sealed the match with a 25-21 win in the third set. After trailing early, FVSU knotted the score at seven with a five-point run sparked by
Sarah Rosario's serving. The two teams traded points until
Benaye Kyle delivered back-to-back kills to clinch the sweep.
Kyle led the offense with 14 kills, hitting .458. Sanford followed with 10 kills and an impressive .667 hitting percentage. Stokes and
Dakotah Holmes each added eight kills, hitting .467 and .333, respectively. Hebert fueled the attack with 35 of the team's 44 assists.
Defensively, Kyle also led the way with nine digs, while Holmes tallied eight and both Rosario and Hebert added seven apiece.
FVSU returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 23, hitting the road to face Savannah State University. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
