FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State Women's Volleyball (9-1, 5-0 SIAC) defeated Clark Atlanta University (1-12, 1-5 SIAC) 3-1 on Thursday afternoon.
In the first set, the Wildcats used a four-point run with
Dakotah Holmes serving to take a 6-3 lead. After the Panthers tied it at 9-9, FVSU answered with a seven-point run behind
Benaye Kyle's serve for a 15-9 advantage. The Wildcats closed strong, outscoring CAU 6-1 from the 20th point to win 25-15 on a Kyle kill.
Set two saw FVSU build a 12-6 lead after a 7-2 stretch early. The Wildcats finished the frame with three straight points, capped by back-to-back kills from
Imani Stokes, to claim the 25-16 win and go up 2-0 in the match.
Clark Atlanta battled back in the third set, pulling even at 21-21 before scoring the final four points to take the set 25-21.
FVSU responded in dominant fashion in the fourth, opening with four straight points on Holmes' serve. At the ninth point, the Wildcats strung together a four-point run followed by a nine-point surge to take a commanding 21-6 lead.
Reagan Mann sealed the 25-11 set victory with a kill, giving FVSU the 3-1 match win.
Stokes led the offense with 10 kills on an impressive .600 hitting percentage. Holmes followed with eight kills (.381), while Kyle chipped in seven. Mann directed the attack with 28 assists and added three service aces, matching Kyle's three.
On defense,
Naoma Yancey and Holmes paced the back row with 10 digs each, while
Sarah Rosario, Mann, and Kyle each tallied six. Stokes controlled the net with two solo blocks and five block assists, while
Caytlyn Sanford and
Ce'Mone Jose added four block assists apiece.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, traveling to Albany State University for a 6 p.m. matchup.
