JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (23-4, 17-2 SIAC) swept Edward Waters University (10-14, 10-9 SIAC) to close out the regular season Thursday night.
FVSU claimed the opening set 25-23. The back-and-forth frame saw the Wildcats trail 6-8 before
Benaye Kyle stepped to the service line and sparked a four-point run to take a 9-8 lead. An Edward Waters error handed FVSU set point, and another miscue secured the win.
The Wildcats controlled the third set in a 25-16 victory. After a 5-5 tie, FVSU used a four-point run behind the serve of
Morgan Hebert to take an 8-5 lead, then extended the margin to 14-7 with a 6-1 stretch. Later, a six-point surge with
Naoma Yancey serving pushed the advantage to 20-9, and a Tigers service error closed the set.
Fort Valley State sealed the match with a 25-20 win in the final frame. Trailing 12-8, the Wildcats responded by outscoring EWU 7-1 to move ahead 14-13. A seven-point run with Yancey at the line helped lock in both the set and the match.
Dakotah Holmes led the offense with 13 kills on a .333 hitting percentage and recorded a double-double with 10 digs.
Imani Stokes followed with nine kills, while
Brooke Matthews added seven. Hebert paced the attack with 22 assists.
Defensively, FVSU shined with three players in double-digit digs.
Sarah Rosario led with 11, while Holmes and Kyle each collected 10. The Wildcats had a block party at the net with 19 total blocks. Stokes led the effort with six block assists and two solo blocks, while
Caytlyn Sanford added three. Holmes, Hebert, and Matthews each contributed two block assists.
