MOBILE, Ala. – Fort Valley State University Men's Basketball (2-4, 1-4 SIAC) picked up its first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season with an 87-71 road victory over Spring Hill College (0-6, 0-2 SIAC) Thursday evening.
Spring Hill opened the game with back-to-back buckets for a 4-0 lead before
Aidan Lambert answered with a layup to tie it at four. The teams traded points early until the Wildcats surged ahead, using a strong run to build an 11-point advantage at 41-30 with just under four minutes remaining. FVSU carried an eight-point lead into the break, 45-37.
The Badgers cut the margin to five with a three-pointer to start the second half, but a basket from
Meka Nnaji quickly pushed the Wildcats back ahead by double digits, 50-40. FVSU maintained at least an eight-point cushion the rest of the way, stretching the lead to as many as 18 with under three minutes to play before closing out the 87-71 win.
Danny Delgardo III led the Wildcats with a scorching 31 points, shooting 70% from beyond the arc and finishing 6-for-7 at the free throw line. Lambert recorded his first double-double of the season with 17 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Nnaji added 15 points on an efficient 7-for-9 shooting night, while
Sincere Whitehead contributed 14 points on a 5-for-6 performance from the field and a 4-for-5 effort from the line.
Derek Delgardo Jr. and Nnaji tied for the second-most rebounds with seven each.
The Wildcats return home on Wednesday, Dec. 17, to host Lane College for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
