Benedict Holds off FVSU in Softball Ender

COLUMBIA, S.C. The Wildcats fell short in their Sunday comeback. Benedict College plated the game's first four runs and held off Fort Valley State, 5-2, in the final game of the softball weekend series.

The home Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the first and single scores in the third and fourth for the 4-0 lead. The Wildcats received a Jennifer Ramirez RBI single in the fifth and a Jasmin Stewart run-scoring double in the sixth, but they couldn't add any more in the final at bat to complete the comeback.

FVSU (2-8/1-2 SIAC East) managed only three runs in the first and third weekend contests in the losses. Benedict (5-4/2-1 SIAC East) scored at least five runs in each game.

Tenison Myricks accounted for a double and a single with a run leading the visitors' hitting. Stewart had the other double with an RBI and one walk. Ramirez contributed her RBI single and scored a run. Zayla Skakel singled, scored and swiped a base, while Riley Youngblood had one hit.

FVSU returns to Wildcat Field for a Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 25) twinbill against Talladega College. First pitch of the opener will be at 2 p.m.
