COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Wildcats fell short in their Sunday comeback. Benedict College plated the game's first four runs and held off Fort Valley State, 5-2, in the final game of the softball weekend series.
The home Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the first and single scores in the third and fourth for the 4-0 lead. The Wildcats received a Jennifer Ramirez RBI single in the fifth and a Jasmin Stewart run-scoring double in the sixth, but they couldn't add any more in the final at bat to complete the comeback.
FVSU (2-8/1-2 SIAC East) managed only three runs in the first and third weekend contests in the losses. Benedict (5-4/2-1 SIAC East) scored at least five runs in each game.
Tenison Myricks accounted for a double and a single with a run leading the visitors' hitting. Stewart had the other double with an RBI and one walk. Ramirez contributed her RBI single and scored a run. Zayla Skakel singled, scored and swiped a base, while Riley Youngblood had one hit.
FVSU returns to Wildcat Field for a Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 25) twinbill against Talladega College. First pitch of the opener will be at 2 p.m.
