Box Score 2 HOOVER, Ala.- Fort Valley State University Softball picked up a 12-4 win over Miles College and fell 6-3 against Spring Hill College for the first day of the Southern Intercolleigate Athletic Confernence (SIAC) Crossover.
In the first contest of the day there was no shortage of offense for the Wildcats as there were 12 runs plated on nine hits. Miles scored first in the first inning. Come the second inning Fort Valley took a lead which they would never surrender.
Tenison Myricks kicked off the scoring for the blue and gold with a single to center field which forced a Golden Bears miscue that allowed two runs to scoot across.
Collage Newton put the ball in play and forced another error pushing around the third FVSU run making it 3-1. A solo bomb from
Jasmin Stewart in the third increased the lead to 4-1. The Wildcats swung the big sticks in the fourth inning with five runs scoring on four hits.
Laila Leverett plated the fifth run on a single to center field.
Leah Leonard followed with an RBI single of her own to make it 6-1. The third run of the inning came around on a Stewart double to the left side.
Jennifer Ramirez blasted a ball to the right field fence for a triple to plate another run. She then came around to score on a throwing error in the same play. Fort Valley completed the run rule victory with three runs in the sixth. Leonard had a base knock which forced yet another Miles error bringing two around to score. Stewart rounded out the scoring with an RBI ground out.
Three Wildcats has multi-base hits. Ramirez led the squad with a 3-for-4 contest including a triple and a double. Stewart also had a stellar day at the plate going 2-for-4 including a home run and a double to drive in three runs. Leonard capped the offensive leaders going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Myricks got the start and the win in the circle going six innings only allowing three earned runs on two hits.
Spring hill took the second game of the day, 6-3. They scored one run in each of the first three innings. The Wildcats plated their first run in the home half of the fourth on a Leverett single up the middle. SHC plated three runs in the visiting half of the sixth which solidified the win margin. FVSU tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the sixth with two runs coming around to score on two RBI groundouts.
Leonard led the offense in game two with a 3-for-4 outing. Stewart was the only other multi-hit Wildcat going 2-for-4 with a double.
Taylor Watson got the start and the loss in the circle tossing six of seven innings with six runs scoring, only one of which was earned, on five hits.
Gabrielle Stonecypher closed the game with no runs on no hits.
FVSU will continue their crossover appearance with a 10 a.m. ET game against Tuskeegee University and a 2 p.m. ET game against Lane College.
