Another day another split in the SIAC Crossover

HOOVER, Ala.- Fort Valley State University split the day with a 2-1 loss against Tuskegee University and an 11-6 win over Lane College in the second day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament. 

The first contest was a pitchers duel with only the runs scoring between both teams. Tuskegee took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run. FVSU countered with their lone run in the fifth inning on an RBI double form Leah Leonard . TU snagged the win on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning. 

Leonard led the offense as the lone player with multiple hits on a 2-for-3 outing with double and an RBI. 

Tenison Myricks got the start and the loss in the circle going six innings and two batters faced in the seventh only allowing two runs on two hits. 

Game two was a slugfest for the Wildcats as 11 runs scored on 14 hits. A hefty first inning put Fort Valley up 5-0. Jasmin Stewart led off the scoring with an RBI single up the middle. Jennifer Ramirez plated the second run by forcing a Dragons error. Leverett followed with an RBI single to right center field to make it 3-0. Myricks also snagged an RBI single up the middle to make it 4-0. Taylor Orr capped off the first inning scoring with a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 5-0.

Lane chipped at the lead on a Wildcat error in the fourth and a three run home run in the fifth making it 5-4. 

Fort Valley counter with back-to-back scoring innings to extend the lead. Myricks drove a two-base knock down the right field line to plate the lone FVSU run in the fifth inning. A five run sixth inning gave the Wildcats the margin for the win. The first two runs of the sixth came on a single rom Stewart through the left side making 8-4. Ramirez pushed run number nine across on a single up the middle. Orr closed out the scoring for Fort Valley on a two-RBI single up the middle making it 11-4. 

Lane did not go quietly plating two runs in the seventh on a double and a ground out. 

Marley Bell had a superb game at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance including two runs scored and stolen base. Both Stewart and Ramirez went 2-for-3. Stewart had three RBI and three runs scored. Ramirez had two RBI and two runs scored with a double. Myricks rounded out the offensive leaders going 2-for-4 with two RBI. 

Gabrielle Stonecypher got the start and the win in the circle going five innings with four runs, only three earned, on two hits. Taylor Watson tossed the final two innings with two runs scoring on two hits. 

The Wildcats are back in action to close their SIAC Crossover appearance with a 10 a.m. ET game with Kentucky State University and a 3 p.m. ET contest with LeMoyne-Owen College.
