Wildcats drop both ends of the doubleheader at Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Fort Valley State University Softball (7-10, 4-4 SIAC) took a 3-1 and 5-2 on the road at Edward Waters University (12-11, 4-1 SIAC), Friday afternoon.

The lone run of the ball game for the Wildcats came on a round trip shot from the big bat of Leah Leonard in the first inning. The Tigers matched the run in the bottom half of the frame then plated two in the sixth.

Despite the loss Leonard had a stellar game at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI on a home run.

Tenison Myricks got the start and the loss in the circle for FVSU. She tossed six innings allowing three runs on four hits and seven strikeouts.

Much like game one, Fort Valley scored all their runs in the first inning. Jasmin Stewart plated the first run on an RBI double down the left field line. Myricks brought Stewart around to score on a single through the left side. Edward Waters took the lead in the first 3-2 then tacked on a run in the third and the fourth.

Stewart was perfect at the plate in the second contest, 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. She had a two base knock and a pair of singles.

Gabrielle Stonecypher got the start and the loss in the circle going three innings allowing four runs on four hits. Taylor Watson came in in relief tossing the final three innings allowing one run on two hits.

The series will come to an end tomorrow at 1 p.m. as the Wildcats look to avoid the sweep.
