JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Fort Valley State University softball (7-11, 4-5 SIAC) took a tough 7-4 loss to Edward Waters University (13-11, 5-1 SIAC), Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats got down early in the first inning trailing 1-0. FVSU took their first lead of the ball game in the second inning on a moon shot from
Alexia Scott to make it a 2-1 lead. Both teams went quiet in the third. Scott came back to the plate and kept up the hot bat this time with an RBI double into right field to make it 3-1. A four-run bottom of the fifth gave Edward Waters the 5-3 led.
Laila Leverett chipped into the lead with an RBI single up the middle to make it 5-4 in the sixth. The Tigers countered with a two spot in the bottom of the frame to take the 7-4 lead. A quiet top of the seventh ended the game, 7-4 in favor of Edward Waters.
Despite the loss, Scott had a superb day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a home run and double to account for three RBI and a run scored.
Zayla Skakel was the only other Wildcat hitter to have multiple hits going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Tenison Myricks got the start and the loss in the circle for FVSU. She tossed three innings allowing one run on two hits and four strikeouts.
The Wildcats are back in action for the SIAC Crossover in Hoover, Ala. starting with a March 11th match up with Miles at 1:30 p.m.
