Wildcats split tri-match

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Fort Valley State University men's volleyball (7-9, 3-0 SIAC) took a 3-0 win over Morehouse College (0-6, 0-3 SIAC) and a 3-0 loss to Lewis University (16-4, 6-2 MIVA) in a tri-match, Saturday. 

FVSU had a dominant showing against Morehouse with a three set sweep. The Wildcats took the first set 25-18, the second set 25-12 and the third set 25-14. In the first set Fort Valley hit .333 as a team, .455 in the second set and .526 in the third set. 

Isaiah Fedd and Khairi Mitchell led the offense both having seven kills. Fed hit an impressive .545 and Mitcher hit .417. Raheem Thomas added six kills hitting .417 and Muhammad Mbaye added five kills. A pair of setters for FVSU tallied 31 of 33 assists in the contest. Jose Gallardo led with 17 and Oshane Farquharson had 14. 

The Wildcats nabbed 32 digs in the match with Thomas leading with six. Constantine Ononye had the second most with four. The great wall of Wildcats was active in the first contest with 10 block assists. Muhammed, Gallardo, Jaxon Hicks and Rashaun Wright led the blocking effort all with two each. 

For Morehouse, Aidan Pullian and Daniel Allen led the team with five kills. Tucker Myles led the team in digs with five. 

Fort Valley took a tough 3-0 loss to the Flyers in the final contest of the tri-match. Lewis outscored FVSU 25-13, 25-15 and 15-14. 

Similarly to the first contest, Fedd led the offense with seven kills. Taviian Martin had the second most with six and Farquharson added five. 

On the defensive side of things, Fort Valley tallied 27 digs with Ononye leading with 11. Hicks had six good for the second most. 

For Lewis Daniel Haber led the offense with 15 kills. Nico Paula led the deffense with 13 digs. 

The Wildcats are back in action on the road at Morehouse Monday, March 10 at 6 p.m.
