JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Fort Valley State University men's volleyball (16-9, 12-0 SIAC) crowned SIAC regular season champions after sweep of Edward Waters University (11-13, 10-2 SIAC), Saturday afternoon.
FVSU goes back-to-back with regular season championships. Fort Valley is the first team in SIAC men's volleyball history to win back-to-back regular season titles.
The Wildcats took the first set 25-16, the second set 25-19 and the third set 25-18. As a team, FVSU hit .467.
Fort Valley took the early first set lead with two quick points on Tiger miscues. A good bit of back and forth until the Wildcats took the largest lead thus far in the set at their 10th point. They went on a four point run starting with a
Jaxon Hicks kill. Come the 17th point for FVSU, was another four point run this time kicked off with a kill from
Isaiah Fedd who then took to the service line. An EWU miscue capped off the first set with a 25-16 win.
After Edward Waters scored the first point of the second set, the Wildcats went on a four point run at their second point secured by Fedd. Hicks kicked off yet another four point run with a kill for the seventh FVSU point of set two. The rest of teh set was back and forth with the final point of the set secured by an EWU attack error, 25-19.
The third set was a cat fight until the fourth Wildcat point on a Hicks kill to start a three point run.
Raheem Thomas scored the 12th point for FVSU which started a three point run. Fort Valley started a four point run at their 18th point of the set on a kill from
Taviian Martin. Another Tiger miscue solidified the sweep for the Wildcats with a 25-8 third set win.
Fedd led the offense with 10 kills on the evening while hitting .529 percent. He also tallied four service aces. Hicks had the second most kills with nine hitting .353 percent. Martin rounded out the kills leaders with five and hitting .500 percent.
Oshane Farquharson led the setting effort with 28 of the 31 assists recorded.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Constantine Ononye and Martin led the digs effort with four. There were five solo blocks on the afternoon with
Rashaun Wright leading the charge with two. There were four block assists and Fedd led the effort with two.
