Wildcats trample Albany State to secure series sweep

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Fort Valley State University softball (20-19, 15-9 SIAC) tackles Albany State Univeristy (20-13, 11-8) 9-4 in Sunday afternoon contest. 

Albany State stuck first with three runs in the first inning on a three-run blast over the left field fence. The Wildcats answered with a three spot in the bottom of the frame. Jasmin Stewart kicked off the scoring with a three base rocket to plate two runs. She then came around to score on a wild pitch knotting the game at three. FVSU hung yet another three spot in the third inning. Riley Youngblood nabbed an RBI single for the first lead of the game. Zayla Skakel knocked a single up the middle pushing two more runs around not 6-3 Fort Valley. Two more runs came around in fourth on a Taylor Orr ball in play to the shortstop. On the play there was a fielder's choice and a throwing error which plated the two runs. Skakel moved the runners around in the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt which forced an ASU miscue making it 9-3. Albany tried to rally in the seventh plating a run on a fielder's choice but couldn't catch the Wildcats. 

Ashtyn Perkins and Stewart both had 2-for-3 days. Stewart had a double and a triple with two RBI and two runs scores. Perkins had two runs scored. 

Tenison Myricks got the start and the win in the circle for FVSU. She tossed four and a third innings with three runs scoring on six hits and five strikeouts. Gabrielle Stonecypher tossed the final 2.2 innings with one run scoring while picking up her first save of the season. 

The Wildcats are back in action on Monday, April 21st to host Trinity Baptist College in doubleheader fashion starting at 1 p.m.
