MOBILE, Ala. Fort Valley State University men's tennis took a 4-3 win over Morehouse College and a 5-2 loss to Tuskegee University
Match one (MC)
In doubles play, the Wildcats fought hard but were unable to come away with a win. At No. 1,
Johnathan Allen and
Joshua Allen fell 6-3 to Eliyahu Pinkney and Tyler Ladge. The No. 2 pairing of
Kayden Alexander and
Ayden Anderson dropped a 6-1 match to Kevin Eutsey and Justice Wilson, while the No. 3 duo of Aurther Mackey and
Devin Joseph fell 6-1 to Symon Brown and Zamani Moyo.
Fort Valley found success in singles play, with Anderson securing a strong 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jack Shaw at No. 2. Alexander earned a win at No. 4 by default. However, the team faced tough competition in the other singles matches. At No. 1,
Johnathan Allen fell 6-0, 6-0 to Moyo, while
Joshua Allen was defeated by Eutsey by the same score at No. 3. Mackey battled at No. 5 but fell to Torain Alleyen 6-0, 6-0. Rounding out singles play,
Braden Dandridge dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match to Ty'lon Miller at No. 6.
Match two (TU)
In doubles action, the Wildcats won two of three matches to claim the early advantage. At No. 2 doubles, Alexander and Anderson delivered a dominant 6-1 victory over Braxton Broady and E. Hill. The No. 3 duo of Mackey and Dandridge battled to a 6-6 tiebreaker, ultimately pulling out a 7-3 win against Jackson McIlwain and Caleb Owens. Meanwhile, the No. 1 pairing of Allen and Allen fell just short in a 6-4 match against Jeremy Samuel and S. Soto.
FVSU continued their strong play in singles, securing four victories to clinch the match. At No. 2, Anderson defeated Samuel 6-1, 6-3, while at No. 4, Alexander posted an identical 6-1, 6-3 win over Owens. Mackey dominated at No. 5 with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Broady. Despite a hard-fought effort, Joshua fell 6-3, 6-2 to McIlwain at No. 1 singles, and at No. 3, Johnathan was defeated by Soto 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 6 matchup, White battled through a tough match but ultimately fell to Hill, 6-1, 6-6 (7-2).
The Wildcats are back in action Thursday, April 3 for a 9 a.m. contest with LeMoyne-Owen College and a 1 p.m. contest with Spring Hill College.
