MOBILE, Ala.- Fort Valley State University women's tennis drop a 7-0 match with Bennedict College and a 5-2 match with Clark Atlanta University as they continue their SIAC Round Up No. 2 stay.
Match one (BC)
In doubles play, the Wildcats showed resilience but were unable to secure a win. At No. 1 doubles,
Valerie Dorelien and
Jordynn Middlebrooks fought hard but fell 6-4 to Tanatswa Musabaeka and Valerie Essome. The No. 2 pairing of
Avery Harris and
Samaar Davis also put up a strong effort but came up short in a 6-3 loss to Patricia Wamba and Dealva Alston. Fort Valley forfeited the No. 3 doubles match.
In singles competition, the Wildcats continued to battle but faced a tough lineup. At No. 1, Middlebrooks fell 6-0, 6-1 to Essome, while Dorelien put up a competitive match at No. 2 before falling 6-2, 6-3 to Wamba. Davis dropped her No. 3 singles match to Musabaeka 6-1, 6-0. At No. 4, Harris played a close match but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-4 to Carmen Kpadonou. FVSU forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches.
Match two (CAU)
In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of
Valerie Dorelien and
Jordynn Middlebrooks played a tightly contested match but ultimately fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5-7), to Keyon Thompkins and Alexandra Turnbough. At No. 2 doubles,
Avery Harris and
Samaar Davis were defeated 6-0 by Joiya Middlebrooks and Jumai Muhammad. The Wildcats forfeited the No. 3 doubles match.
FVSU put up a strong fight in singles play, securing two hard-fought wins. At No. 3, Harris battled past Middlebrooks, winning a tough first set in a tiebreaker before closing out the match 7-6 (10-8), 6-2. Davis delivered another strong performance at No. 4, taking down Turnbough in a three-set thriller, 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 6-5. Elsewhere in singles play, Middlebrooks fell 6-2, 6-3 to Janae Troupe at No. 1, while Dorelien was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Muhammad at No. 2. Fort Valley forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches.
The Wildcats return to action Friday, April 5th for a 9 a.m. contest with Tuskegee Universtiy and a 1 p.m. contest with Edward Waters University.
