FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Fort Valley State University men's volleyball (14-9, 10-0 SIAC) reach double-digit conference wins in three-set sweep of LeMoyne-Owen College (2-14, 2-8 SIAC).
The Wildcats took the first set 25-17, the second set 25-11 and the third set 25-23.
FVSU took the first point of the match on a kill from
Jaxon Hicks. Another kill from Hicks would send
Oshane Farquharson to the service line for a five-point run for the 6-2 lead. A little back and forth pushed the first set along until a Magicians error for the Wildcats 21st point. This sent
Jose Gallardo to service for a four-point run, now 24-15.
Fort Valley kicked off the second set hot with a four-point run starting with a Hicks service ace. A bad set from LOC sent
Jamil Scott to the service line kicking off a four-point run ending with an 11-4 lead. The 17th Wildcat point came from a LeMoyne-Owen service error.
Kevin Charles would then serve for a four-point run, 20-8. A little back and forth accounted for the remainder of the set with an FVSU win 25-11.
The third set was fully of volleys with the lead changing 10 plus times before the Wildcats took their largest lead of the set. A service error for the visitors sent
Taviian Martin to serve going on a seven point run to nab the 18-14 lead. The rest of the set was more back and forth but FVSU never surrendered the lead to take the 25-23 win.
Scott led the offense with five kills on the afternoon. Hicks had the second most with four and a .300 hitting percentage.
Khairi Mitchell,
Isaiah Fedd and Martin all had three kills to round out the leaders.
Jakaris Brown led the squad in assists with nine. Farquharson added seven with Gallardo tallying six.
On defense, Farquharson led the dig effort with eight. Both liberos,
Constantine Ononye and
Jaequon Henderson, both had six each. FVSU had two solo blocks one form
Raheem Thomas and the other from
Rashaun Wright.
Marty Boyd led the team in block assists with three. Farquharson and Brown both had two.
The Wildcats are back in action Wednesday, April 9th at 6 p.m. as they take on Edward Waters University for senior day. Prior to the contest head coach
