LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (1-0) team rolled to a dominant sweep over LaGrange College (2-7) on Wednesday night, taking the match in three straight sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-16).
The Wildcats wasted no time setting the tone in the opening set. After a four-point run with
Sarah Rosario at the service line made it 4-1, FVSU stacked together multiple scoring bursts.
Reagan Mann fueled another four-point stretch at 9-5, and
Naoma Yancey delivered a key serving run to push the advantage to 17-7. A LaGrange service error sealed the frame, 25-14.
In the second set, FVSU broke things open at the sixth Wildcat point. A 10-point run with
Benaye Kyle at the line turned a 6-8 deficit into a commanding 15-8 lead. Mann closed the set behind the service line with yet another four-point Wildcat run, giving the Wildcats the 25-17 win.
The momentum carried into the third. A 6-2 start, highlighted by a
Dakotah Holmes serving run, gave FVSU the lead for good. Another three-point push at 14-10 and a closing four-point surge with Kyle behind the line capped the match, 25-16.
Kyle paced the Wildcats with her first double-double of the season, tallying 10 kills and 14 digs. Holmes matched her with 10 kills, while
Imani Stokes added nine kills on an efficient .636 hitting percentage. Mann directed the offense with 23 of FVSU's 32 assists.
The ground effort for FVSU was top notch with 43 digs. Kyle led the effort with 14 while Holmes tallied seven with Mann and Rosario adding six each.
At the net,
Ce'Mone Jose posted two solo blocks and an assist, while
Caytlyn Sanford added two more solo blocks to anchor the front row.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 12
th at 6 p.m. to host Paine College at the HPE Complex.
