FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball team (4-1) dropped a hard-fought match to Georgia College & State University (7-4) on Tuesday evening, falling 3-1.
The Wildcats found their rhythm early in the opening set. After trailing 4-0, FVSU answered with four straight points behind the serve of
Sarah Rosario. Tied at 9-9, the momentum shifted as
Reagan Mann fueled a six-point run at the service line. Down the stretch, back-to-back three-point runs, separated by a lone Bobcat point, propelled the Wildcats to take the first set, 25-17.
Set two opened with GCSU racing to an 8-2 advantage, but the Wildcats battled back. A five-point run with Mann serving and a four-point spurt from
Naoma Yancey kept the set tight. Ultimately, the Bobcats held on for a 25-23 win to even the match.
The third set stayed close until FVSU outscored GCSU 6-2 after the eighth point to pull in front. However, the Bobcats answered with timely runs to rally back and secure a 25-23 win.
In the fourth, the Wildcats jumped out 2-0 and later built an 8-4 lead thanks to a three-point run with Mann at the line. The set remained a back-and-forth battle until the Bobcats strung together three straight points at 23-22 to close the match with a 25-22 victory.
Benaye Kyle led the attack with 16 kills and collected her third double-double of the season, adding 13 digs.
Dakotah Holmes recorded her second double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs, while
Imani Stokes chipped in 10 kills. Mann orchestrated the offense with 40 assists across four sets.
Defensively, the Wildcats were anchored by Yancey, who posted a career-high 29 digs. Kyle and Mann each added 13 digs. At the net,
Ce'Mone Jose tallied three block assists and a solo block, with
Caytlyn Sanford right behind at three block assists.
FVSU returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 25, opening the first SIAC Crossover of the season with a 10 a.m. matchup against Miles College in Albany, Ga.
