ALBANY, Ga.- Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (8-1, 4-0 SIAC) delivered a dominant weekend at the SIAC Crossover, sweeping Central State University (4-6 1-4 SIAC) 3-0 before powering past Lane College (1-13, 0-4) 3-1 to close out the event.
In the opening match against Central State, the Wildcats struck early with a four-point run at the eighth point behind
Benaye Kyle's serve. FVSU held off the Marauders late, sealing the 25-21 set one victory on an
Imani Stokes kill.
The Wildcats gained momentum in the second set with a five-point run at the ninth point from
Sarah Rosario, followed by a 7-0 stretch with
Dakotah Holmes at the service line. Outscoring Central State 12-1 during the run, FVSU closed the frame with back-to-back kills to win 25-18.
In the final set, the Wildcats used multiple service runs, including a closing four-point push capped by a
Naoma Yancey ace, to secure the sweep, 25-19.
Holmes and Kyle each posted double-doubles with 12 kills apiece, adding 11 and 10 digs respectively. Stokes rounded out the offensive leaders with 10 kills, while setter
Reagan Mann dished out 33 assists to pace the attack. On defense, Rosario and Mann collected 12 digs each, with Stokes anchoring the net defense behind three solo blocks and a block assist.
FVSU carried that energy into its matchup with Lane, earning a 3-1 victory. The Wildcats opened with a 25-19 first set win, highlighted by multiple scoring runs behind Rosario and Kyle's serving and a Yancey ace to close it out.
Lane responded in the second set, rallying from an early deficit with a 9-1 stretch to claim a 25-23 decision. But FVSU roared back in set three, breaking an 11-11 tie with a commanding 14-point run behind Rosario's serve before Holmes finished the 25-13 win with a kill. The Wildcats closed out the match in the fourth set, finishing on a 4-0 run and sealing the 25-20 victory on a Lane error.
Holmes again led the offensive charge with 12 kills, while Stokes and Kyle tallied eight apiece. Mann distributed 25 assists and Rosario shined from the service line with six aces. Yancey fueled the defensive effort with 14 digs, and at the net, Stokes posted three block assists with Holmes adding two.
The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday, October 2 as they host Clark Atlanta University in Woodward Gym at 6 p.m.
