Wildcats Sweep Central State Behind Grit and Dominance at the Net

WILBERFORCE, Oh- Fort Valley delivered a strong showing on the road, picking up back-to-back SIAC victories over Central State (OH) in a competitive weekend series at Beacom/Lewis Gym.

In the opener, the Wildcats outlasted Central State in a thrilling five-set battle (3–2). After taking the first two sets 25–22 and 25–17, FVSU saw Central State rally to even the match, but the Wildcats responded in the decisive fifth set with a 15–12 win to secure the victory.

Fort Valley showcased balance throughout the lineup, finishing with 41 kills and a .223 hitting percentage, while also controlling the net with 11 total blocks. Key performances came from Taviian Martin, who led the offense with 11 kills, and Muhammad Mbaye, who was highly efficient with eight kills on a .800 hitting percentage. Jamari Griffin and Keaton Long added eight and nine kills respectively, contributing to a well-rounded attack.

The Wildcats followed with another strong performance on Saturday, defeating Central State 3–1 to complete the series sweep. After dropping the opening set, Fort Valley State responded by winning three straight (25–23, 25–23, 25–20), showing composure and control down the stretch.

Offensively, FVSU again relied on a balanced approach, totaling 41 kills while improving its defensive presence with 15.5 total blocks. Taviian Martin led the way with eight kills and a dominant presence at the net, recording eight total blocks, while Keaton Long added nine kills. Muhammad Mbaye contributed seven kills and six blocks, anchoring both the offense and defense.

With the sweep, the Wildcats improve their conference standing and continue to build momentum as they hit the road on Wednesday, April 8 to battle Edward Waters at 6 p.m. ET.
