Congratulation to Shekiya Tarpkins for being named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week, as released by the conference office.
The 6’0 senior forward from Social Circle, Ga. averaged 22.3 points a game and seven rebounds in three games last week. After falling 75-52 to Central State where she finished with eight points, five rebounds, and two assists, she led Fort Valley State (4-9 overall, 3-2 SIAC) to a 77-60 win over Spring Hill. Tarpkins recorded a game-high 31 points and added eight rebounds, four steals, three blocks, and three assists. She was 10-of-16 from the field and 4-for-5 from behind the arc. The Lady Wildcats finished the week with a 64-63 loss to Lane where Tarpkins led all players in scoring with 28 points. She tallied a game-high seven steals, along with four assists and a block.
