Darville Leads Wildcats Women’s Cross Country in SIAC Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. –
 Narrowly missing the top 20, Fort Valley State's Kashia Darville ran across the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's cross country championship finish line in 22nd place to lead the team's contingent Friday morning.
 
With Darville pacing the effort, the Wildcats put together an 11th-place team effort with a score of 274. FVSU bested Central State in the 12-team field. Spring Hill repeated as the women's team champion with a score of 35 with its top runners taking 2nd, 3rd and 5th places. Benedict College was second (52) with Stellah Kiptui taking the top spot in 18:25.6 of the 5k course.
 
Behind Darville in 22nd (22:24.7), April Rogers and Jamie Burden were less than a second apart in 54th (26:47.9) and 55th (26:48.2). Taesha Cook-Pirtle and Tamia Clark rounded out the FVSU team in 70th (33:06.5) and 73rd (34:24.7).
