Bell and Simmons-Blair Receive SIAC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – With the best back-to-back night results, the Wildcats picked up a pair of weekly conference awards. Nia Bell and Ashley Simmons-Blair received the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week Volleyball honors announced on Monday.

The two FVSU seniors were key players in the team posting a 3-0 win at Clark Atlanta in the final SIAC contest and a 3-2 match victory the following night at Brewton-Parker College to finish the regular season.

In the week's matches, Bell pounded 37 kills at a .292 rate to go with 32 digs, two aces and three total blocks. At libero, Simmons-Blair recorded 34 digs, three set assists and an ace.

In the Tuesday match, Bell hit 13 winners and dug 11 attacks to go with two aces and two block assists against Clark Atlanta. The outside hitter followed with her biggest kill night of the season at Brewton-Parker with 24 kills, a hitting percentage of .315, 21 digs and a solo block. Bell killed the final two points in the opening set win and had five more kills in the match-deciding fifth set won by the Wildcats, 15-13.

Simmons-Blair contributed 11 digs, an assist and an ace in the 3-0 win over Clark Atlanta. The Aiken, S.C., native had a season-high 23 digs with two assists in the five-set win versus Brewton-Parker.

On the season, Bell recorded a team-high 234 kills over 72 sets, while she had 186 digs, second on team, 21 aces and 20 total blocks. Simmons-Blair led the Wildcats with 267 digs (3.71 digs/set) in 72 sets.
