Kelly & Smith Both Win Twice, but Rams Edge Wildcats Women’s Tennis

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – On a more brisk Central Georgia Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats battled hard on the courts. Kariah Kelly and Tynrecia Smith captured singles wins and teamed up for a doubles victory, but rival Albany State edged Fort Valley State in the final team total, 4-3.

Kelly and Smith opened the afternoon by pushing past the Rams' Latoya Boyd and Ana Maria Forero in a 7-5 set. The two FVSU (0-3) teammates took the top two singles matchups for the pair of home wins.

Kelly took away a 6-3 opening set over Boyd. The FVSU senior went ahead 3-0 in the second set, before she finished the match 6-2.

Smith logged a 6-2 opening set over the Rams' Alani Gaulteer and went on to shutout her foe 6-0 in second set.

Brishon Bridges had her best showing of the week, but she fell to Forero by matching 6-3 and 6-3 sets.

The FVSU women have over a week off until it hosts the SIAC Roundup on Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 21-23.
