Experienced Wildcats Set for 2023 Women’s Volleyball Schedule

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – With a solid core back, the Wildcats are preparing for an exciting fall season on the court. Fort Valley State women's volleyball is ready for a Conference run with its mix of returning talent and incoming newcomers announce the 2023 schedule it will face.

After a second year of growth with a young team last fall, the Wildcats will be ready for its 2023 season opener on September 1 in a 5 p.m. home match against LaGrange College. The match will be the first of 12 to be played on the HPE Arena court, while FVSU has 10 road contests and six matches at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover matches in Cartersville, Ga.

Among the 28 season matches, FVSU has home-and-home series with area foes Wesleyan College and Middle Georgia State. FVSU opens its campaign with four home matches in a row with Middle Georgia State (Sept. 2), Allen University (Sept. 3) in the SIAC opener and Agnes Scott (Sept. 5) following the LaGrange first game.

The FVSU roster will feature a more experienced lineup of one senior, five juniors and five freshmen led by returning All-SIAC Second Team selection Raven Edwards.

Wildcat Returning Leaders:

Kills: Edwards (Jr., Merrillville, Ind.), who was tops with 169 kills. Outside hitter Morgan Gooden (So., Douglasville, Ga.) was second in kills with 104.

Assists & Service Aces: Laiani McCullough (Jr., Beaufort, S.C.) guided the offense with 525 assists and 33 service aces.

Digs: Sarah Rosario (Jr., Bayamon, P.R.) was seventh in the league in digs per game at 3.79 per set, 346 total digs.

Blocks: Jayda Mikell (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) was the top blocker at 53 total blocks.
