11/5/2024 12:54:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats have had a consistent leader of the offense the past few years and more wins have resulted. For the first time this season, Fort Valley State's Laiani McCullough was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week.

After the Wildcats took away a road win before falling in two tough home matches, senior setter McCullough picked up the league's honor following a week of 70 assists, 20 digs, five kills, three blocks and an ace over 13 sets of action.

The biggest McCullough assist of the week came with the 21st one on Friday night against Savannah State for her 1,500th career assist. With 23 on Saturday night, the Wildcat setter now stands at 1,526 assists.

The Beaufort, S.C., native helped FVSU win at Savannah State, before the same foe prevailed Friday night and Edward Waters slipped past the team on Saturday. McCullough had a consistent week with 24, 23 and 23 assists along with five, seven and eight digs.

The fourth-year Wildcat has helped the team tie its 2023 win total at 11-6, and the highest wins in two decades.

Along with reaching over 1,500 career assists, McCullough has totaled 332 assists (5.35 assists/set), 129 digs (2.08/set), 17 aces, 10 kills and four total blocks.

FVSU returns to action this Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9, when it hosts Benedict College in a 2 p.m. first serve.
