ROME, Ga.- Fort Valley State University men's tennis took a tough 7-0 loss to Benedict College in day one of the Southern Interacollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Roundup.
Ayden Anderson and Kayden Alexander partnered in the number one doubles spot and earned a strong 6-3 victory over Benedict's Munache Marume and Jason Chigaazira.
In the second doubles spot, Arthur Mackey and Joshua Allen faced Benedict's Anesu Kwirirai and Divgurjot Singh. Despite a valiant effort, the duo fell 6-1. Devin Joseph and Johnathan Allen fought hard in the third doubles spot, but ultimately lost 6-4 to Gavin Browne and Ladarius Johnson.
Singles play saw some intense matchups as well. Anderson faced off against Browne in the number one singles spot and showed great resilience, winning one set and pushing Browne to the limit in the third. Alexander battled Kwirirai in the second singles slot, facing a tough opponent in both sets, while Joshua showed strong fight against Singh in the third singles spot.
Mackey played a gritty match against Marume in the fourth singles spot but ultimately lost both sets. Johnathan continued to show perseverance in the fifth singles match against Chigaazira, and Dandridge rounded out the competition in the final singles match against Johnson.
The FVSU men started a contest against Spring Hill College but did not finish due to rain. Weather permitting, the contest will be finished tomorrow on top of the regularly scheduled matches.
