Clestine King Harley is a graduate of Perry High School in 1980. After competing in only one year of high school basketball, “Tree” accepted a full scholarship to Fort Valley State College to play women’s basketball. While at Fort Valley State, Clestine competed in cross country, basketball, and track &field.
Harley would go on to capture first place at the SIAC Track & Field Championship held in Albany, Ga in 1983. Tree cleared the bar at 5’8 and qualified for track nationals(NCAA) held at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO., bring home an outstanding performance and field award, as well as Most Valuable performance. Tree’s jump of 5’8 still stands to date at FVSU.
After graduating, her talents would take her into the U.S. Army where she played basketball for four more years, being named to the All Army team. Throughout her 26 years, she served in many leadership positions from squad leader to first sergeant. She retired as a first sergeant out of Fort Bragg, NC in 2012.
