After being a 3 sports letterman (baseball, basketball, & Track and Field) at RL McDougald H.S.in Taylor County. Matt decided to enter into Fort Valley State College (University) and major in Middle Grades Education and minor in Health and Physical Education.
Coach Matt Troutman has gone on to be an educator and servant leader for 41 years. During this time span, he has served as head coach for the Taylor County Lady Vikings basketball team for 38 years and Athletics Director for 23 years. He encourages individuals to accomplish their best on the court, off the court, and in the classroom.
He is a member of the Taylor County Recreation Department Board. His mantra is “Success is earned and should never be taken for granted”. He has served as Grand Marshal for the community’s local Countryside Festival Parade. He has 877 career basketball wins including 6 state championships, 3 undefeated seasons (1988, 1992, and 2015). He has numerous Coach of the Year and Athletics Director of the Year honors to his credit.
