Dr. Curtis Martin has served in education for 43 years. He has served as a graduate teaching assistant, a professor at the junior college and college level as an associate member of the Ph. D faculty at the University of Georgia, as a Department Chairperson, as a College Dean, as Executive Vice President, as Dean of Students, and as Interim President.
         
Dr. Martin has written more than 15 grants totaling more than three million dollars focusing on subjects such as teacher education, women’s rights and domestic and community violence in 1992. In 1992, he submitted a grant called Camp Adventure Youth Services that enabled more than 300 FVSU students to travel internationally free of charge with the opportunity to earn undergraduate and graduate credits. He would later afford these opportunities to students at Florida A&M, Albany State, Paine College, and Alabama A&M.
         
While at FVSU, Martin won the John W Davison Outstanding Teacher Award and today graduates of his program hold positions in education, physical therapy, as school superintendents, and other related professions.
         
Beyond academia, Dr. Martin served as the M & W Tennis Coach in 1981. He served as tennis coach until he was named Dean of The College of Education in 1995. The Women’s Team won 6 consecutive SIAC Championships, and the Men’s Team was always in the upper echelon of the conference. He was named “Coach of the Year” 5 times and in 1987, he received the honor for Men’s and Women’s team respectfully.
