Gerald Ellison grew up in Fort Valley, GA and attended Hunt High School where he was a member of the marching band until his junior year when he became a member of the football and track team.
After graduation, he would enter into Fort Valley State College to play football. As a student-athlete, he lettered in football and swimming. While being a member of Wildcats, he received honorable mention as an outside linebacker and was an All SIAC Guard. Ellison was a member of the team that scored 106 points against Knoxville College in 1969. In swimming, he was on Fort Valley’s first swim team in 1966 and earned a Bronze medal in the SIAC swimming championships as part of the 4 X 100 yard relay team in 1968.
Upon graduating in 1970, he entered into the US Navy, where he served honorable for 10 years. While in the Navy, Gerald led the base to a championship in football and an undefeated season in basketball. Also while stationed in Virginia, he finished up his career by playing Semi-Pro with the Little Creek Gators and his team finished 10-0.
