Dean Brown attended Henry County Training School in McDonough, Ga where he played 3 sports; football, basketball, and track. Lettering in all 3 sports, Brown would then attend Fort Valley State College and play for the Legendary Coach Stan Lomax. Brown still holds the FVSC record for longest run from scrimmage (94 yards). Dean also played baseball and received yet another accolade, as an All SIAC performer. Brown would go on to play professionally for the Cleveland Browns as a defensive back and special teams. Brown finished up his professional career with the Miami Dolphins as a defensive back.
Brown would return to Middle Georgia to serve as a physical education teacher at the junior high level in Bibb County. He would later move to high school, where he served as a P.E. teacher, head football coach, baseball coach, and 9th grade basketball coach. Dean worked in Bibb County for 17 years before transferring to the Houston County school system for an additional 17 years.
After coaching on the high school level, Brown returned to his alma mater and began coaching the defensive secondary for 13 years, 2 of those years as defensive coordinator. Dean Brown is recognized as coaching several players that went on to play professional football such as Tyrone Poole, Darryl Holmes, and Nick Harper. Coach Brown has played a major role in why the defensive secondary was considered as one of the best in NCAA Division 2 football.
